Don't buy it. It worked great when i got it but the power supply failed in a month.

Windows almost always reconginzes this device incorrectly. Once in a blue moon could I get it to work. Usually works when it is the first hookup with a hard drive the OS hasn't seen before.

Ok, far as I am concern, this is waste of money, yes, I know it's only under $20. I have both 3.5 and 2.5 external HD enclosures. I use them most everyday to recover files for my customers. I thought I could save some time by using this adapter. What a waste, first of all, I can't get it to sync as USB2.0, it always come up as USB1.1. Second, this device CAN NOT mount many of my HDs. I didn't test any of my optical drives. You get what you paid for. JUNK.

Works fine for HardDrives, but none of my 3 BenQ/LiteOn/Toshiba DVD/CD RW drives work with it. (tried all 3 settings, Master/Slave/CS and even loaded USB2 firmware on BenQ drive). Tried it on both a Dell laptop and an Athlon64 desktop

Make sure you set your devices to "Master". They will not read if set to "Slave"

This gets a 1 on instructions, a 5 on ease of use (after setup) and usefulness. Read the reviews here and elsewhere for hints on setting it up, it was not obvious to me. For example, when I first hooked it up, WinXP on a laptop recognized the USB device and the Western Digital hard drive, but I could not access it. If you right click on My Computer then choose Manage, you can then see the drive and initialize it (it was new) but still not access it. I then used the disc that came with the hard drive to partition and format it. Then it worked great. To use it on my old Win98 machine, I merely had to load the driver that came with the BT-200 (GL811 I think) then it too worked great. I formatted part of the drive as FAT32 for the old machine and the rest as NTFS. I backed up the old 4G hard drive using USB1 in about 2 hours.
